"I am pleased that you are sharing your personal story with the general public.  Breast cancer affects a wide range of individuals, and husbands are often faced with strong emotions in dealing with this illness.  Your book will undoubtedly inspire many men in this country and beyond.  I am enclosing a letter I sent to Dr. LaSalle Leffall, Chairman of the Komen Foundation, regarding your book."

U.S. Senator Bob Dole

"As a result of the signing and having read your book, I'll be able to better hand-sell it to friends and family members of those fighting cancer or providing care for them."

"I just had this imperative feeling to send you this note.  The book - Men Bleed Too- is an absolutely beautiful and heart-felt book.  Your unconditional love toward your ailing wife deeply touched my heart.  I like to thank your wife, Connie, who encouraged you to share this compelling story, and also thank you for your effort to publish this book."

"Tom and Connie, I just finished Men Bleed Too. (I had to stop and fix dinner).  Thank you.  What a touching, well-written story.  Okay...now I'm waiting for She Taught Me to Laugh Again.  Truly...a job well done, Tom,and a very nice tribute to Barbara.  Thanks.  sbj"

First of all, I thought it was well written and well organized.  While I was reading it and since that time I found that it filled in the details of a long series of personal events for you and Barb that I did not have a reason to know about, let alone understand.  We were generally familiar with the final chapter/outcome of your journey together, but had no understanding whatsoever of all the events that preceded over a significant period of time.  Cancer is a very personal disease and it is obvious from reading your book just how that affected nearly every aspect of your (and your family's) personal and professional lives.  The personal aspect of having known and been friends with you and Barb for so many years certainly caused me to paust and reflect on many of the events you described in detail.   As I read I oftern found myself thinking "I never realized that it could have that effect!" or "I wasn't aware that they were going thru all of that - how did they deal with it?"  And your description of the varying levels of quality health care was a real eye opener.

Dear Tom,  Sorry I couldn't attend the reunion.  I did however, read your book, and was so impressed.  You had lots of useful advice for caregivers, but also for patients, in understanding what the caregiver goes through at a time like this.  As a breastcancer survivor, I  was touched by Barbara's struggle, and yours...by your faith and courage through all of it, and am thankful for the advice and viewpoint from one who has been through this.  Your book is a treasure.  Thanks for writing it.

Dear Connie and Tom,

I finished the book last night, with tears I might add.  It's very touching.  It's also a tribute to the love you share with each other.  It was interesting to read all the ups and downs, doubts and trepidations that you went through with the grief process, but also with the love that bloomed from that loss.  It is a very poignant story.  I'm glad that you are sharing your process with others through your book.  It gives light and hope in dark places.  We're told that after the storm the sky always clears, but it's not easy to see that when the storm is raging.  I'm so glad that we are friends.  You have such a giving loving spirit that is more powerful because you found each other.  There are no coincidences.

Here is a poem I saw in Unity's publication, Daily Word.  It seems to sum up the trip you two have been on through your loss and "Resurgence."

RESURGENCE  by R. H. Grenville

It's that time of year:
the weight and whit of winter
has rolled away.
Streams are free to flow.
There is a bright beginning to the day.
Hearts and minds are moved to
    wonder and reflection.
Everywhere now, birth and rebirth:
on branch and bough,
miracles of resurrection!

LOVE,  Sara

I finished reading your book, Men Bleed Too. It is hard to say that I
"enjoyed" reading it, but I did. I felt the pain and didn't like it,
but at the same time I felt your love for your wife. I think I saw
myself often and that was both good and bad. I am sorry that you and
Barbara had to endure this. It is so wrong!

Thank you for sending me a copy of your book, She taught Me To Laugh Again.  It read like a mystery novel.  Each page revealing a new development.  Yet, it was a true story.  It was wonderful.

What an incredible series of events you folks have experienced.  Tom, in your note with the book, She Taught Me To Laugh Again, you promised that I would enjoy it.  Not only did I enjoy it but it gave me a deep appreciation for what you both have been through.  I never had any idea of what Connie experienced.  Thanks for the chance to know you both so much better.  The persistence and courage that you both displayed in getting together was remarkable.  And, how, it all turned out wonderfully.
